We all love our share of hydrating drinks during the day. They not only quench our thirst but also provide essential energy to our body. But is there a good time to drink coconut water? We came across a post on social media which said that drinking just one glass of coconut water every day at 10 am helps in weight management, improves skin hydration and prevents bacterial infections. So, we decided to ask the experts.
Coconut water is low in calories and according to a report in Medical News Today, one cup of it contains only 45 calories. Therefore, whenever you feel like drinking soda or other sugary drinks, drink coconut water.
When is the right time to drink coconut water?
Dr. Pankaj Chaudhary, Senior Consultant, Internal Medicine, Max Super Specialty Hospital, Vaishali, urged that it is recommended for people suffering from illnesses or dehydration issues. “It is not needed on a daily basis for healthy people,” Dr. Chaudhary said.
Dr Shrey Srivastava, MD (Internal Medicine), Sharda Hospital, Noida, said coconut water boosts immunity and starts the body’s metabolism. “It is better to drink coconut water early in the morning rather than in the evening and drink it in limited quantities,” said Dr Srivastava.
Coconut water is an excellent natural electrolyte source, making it a good choice for rehydration after exercise, said Dr Rinki Kapoor, consultant dermatologist, cosmetic dermatologist and skin-surgeon, The Aesthetic Clinic.
Do not drink coconut water if potassium levels in your blood are high. “Coconut water contains high levels of potassium. Therefore, people with kidney disease and heart rhythm disorders should not take it,” said Dr Srivastava.
Some people find coconut water a soothing and hydrating option before bed, but be mindful of your preferences and how it affects your sleep, Dr. Kapoor said.
Additionally, individual preferences and reactions may vary, so Dr. Kapoor advised that one should listen to their body and enjoy coconut water when it suits their routine and tastes.
