India’s best Commonwealth Games performance
India’s 61 medals in Birmingham may seem far fewer than the 22 gold medals of 101 won at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games and 26 won at the Gold Coast four years ago, but to account for the themes that were missing here, And this is indeed India’s best Commonwealth Games performance.
101 medals, 30 are from shooting, eight from archery, seven from Greco-Roman wrestling and four from tennis. None of these subjects was part of the 2022 Games. Subtract this from Delhi’s total and we are left with 52 medals including 17 gold.
For a fair comparison, also remove the Lawn Balls Gold and Silver, Cricket Silver and Judo Medals from Birmingham as cricket and judo were not part of the 2010 CWG and there were no men’s and women’s fours in the 2010 Lawn Bowl. In which India won medals here. This brings the 2022 tally to 55 medals and 21 gold, better on both counts than in 2010.
