Kiren Rijiju on Agriculture Bill said ‘Biggest reforms in agriculture’

Itanagar: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday said that the three agrarian reform bills passed by Parliament are the ‘biggest reforms’ in the agricultural sector since independence and the farmers of the North East will be its biggest beneficiaries. Union Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Kiren Rijiju further said that this bill has been brought by the government to give farmers the option of selling their crops anywhere in the country.

He said that there is no restriction on absolute freedom to the farmers from selling their products anywhere and that the farmers will get the necessary support from the state to strengthen the agricultural sector to increase production. He said that this amendment will create a positive environment not only for farmers but also for consumers and investors and will help the country to become self-reliant.

Appreciating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to double farmer’s income by 2022, Rijiju said that these reforms removed all manipulation of intermediaries that would greatly benefit farmers. The three bills passed by Parliament produce the Farmers Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, the Price Assurance of Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) and Agricultural Services Bill, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill 2020.
