New Jersey restaurant launches ‘Modi Ji Thali’ ahead of PM’s US visit, here are its dishes

All in all, the United States is preparing to roll out the red carpet for Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his state visit later this month. Apart from the official spectacle, a delectable welcome awaits them in the form of a special ‘thali’ dedicated to PM Modi.

News agency reported that a restaurant in New Jersey rusted the ‘Modi ji thali’ before Modi ji reached America. Prepared by Chef Shripad Kulkarni, the thali includes traditional Indian dishes like khichdi, rasgulla, sarson ka saag, Kashmiri dum aloo, idli, dhokla, chaanch and papad.

According to Chef Kulkarni, the thali is curated as per the demand of the Indian expatriates living there. The thali pays tribute to 2023 being declared by the United Nations as the International Year of Millets following a recommendation from the Government of India, with dishes prepared using millets.

The restaurant owner also plans to launch another special thali dedicated to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar soon.

“We are planning to launch this thali soon. I am very positive that it is going to gain popularity. Once this goes well I am also planning to launch a Dr Jaishankar thali , because he too has rockstar appeal among the Indian American community.” said the owner.

This is not the first time that PM Modi has introduced a special dish dedicated to him. Ahead of his birthday on September 17 last year, a Delhi restaurant launched a thali named ’56-inch Modi Ji’ thali.

Prime Minister Modi will pay his first state visit to the US this month at the invitation of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. During their four-day visit that begins on June 21, the US President and the First Lady will host PM Modi for a state dinner on June 22.

Meanwhile, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will arrive in Delhi on June 13 on a two-day visit to discuss various issues, a week ahead of PM Modi’s visit to the US.
