A metal container containing 279 coins and silver ornaments dating back to 1862 was recovered during the construction of a house in a village here and handed over to the Archaeological Survey of India, an official said on Sunday.
Coins and jewelery were recovered on Saturday during the excavation for the construction of a house in Vyas Pura village of Kotwali Jalaun, Uttar Pradesh.
Orai’s Deputy District Magistrate Rajesh Singh said that Kamlesh Kushwaha was allotted a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the foundation of the house was being dug on Saturday.
He said that an employee present at the spot stumbled the container.
Singh called the archaeological officials to the spot and handed over the ornaments and coins to them.
