PM Awas Yojana: 14.5 lakh families of Uttar Pradesh got their home under PM Awas Yojana

New Delhi: The Prime Minister has said that under the present government, the PM Awas Yojana has moved forward rapidly and has helped the poor in Uttar Pradesh. The Prime Minister was addressing through video conference after releasing financial assistance to more than 6 lakh beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Grameen in Uttar Pradesh today.

The Prime Minister stressed that self-reliant India is directly linked to the self-confidence of the citizens of the country and having a home of its own increases this confidence manifold. The self-owned house also offers hope of instilling confidence in life and coming out of poverty.

The Prime Minister recalled that in the time of previous governments, the poor did not believe that the government could help in getting their house built. He also said that the houses built in the earlier plan were not in good condition. The Prime Minister said that the poor had to bear the brunt of wrong policies. Keeping this plight in mind, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was launched with the objective of providing houses to every poor family before the completion of 75 years of independence. In rural areas, 2 crore housing units have been constructed in recent years, with 1.25 crore units contributing to the PM Awas Yojana, of which the central government’s contribution is about 1.5 lakh crores.

The Prime Minister also recalled the lack of response from previous governments in the state. He informed that 22 lakh rural houses are to be constructed in Uttar Pradesh out of which 21.5 lakh have been sanctioned for construction. Under the current government, 14.5 lakh families have got their own homes.
