PM Modi address UN General Assembly, gives 5-point mantra

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is addressing a high level UNGA meeting on the 75th anniversary of the United Nations. He said in his address that seventy-five years ago a new hope arose from the horrors of war. For the first time in human history, an institution was formed for the entire world. India was part of that great vision as a founding signatory to the United Nations Charter. This reflected his philosophy of India ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ which sees the entire creation as one family.

Today our world has become a better place due to the United Nations. We are a tribute to all those who have made peace and development work better under the flag of the United Nations. It also includes the United Nations Peace Mission where India has had a leading contribution.

Though we have achieved a lot, but the original mission is still incomplete. The far-reaching manifesto that we are adopting today shows that much work still needs to be done in these areas: in preventing conflict, ensuring development, preventing climate change, reducing inequalities and digital In leveraging technologies. This declaration also recognizes the need for reform in the United Nations.

We cannot deal with today’s challenges with the old structure. The United Nations is struggling with a crisis of confidence without comprehensive reform. Today’s interconnected world requires a multilateral reform that reflects today’s realities, gives voice to all stakeholders, addresses contemporary challenges and focuses on human welfare.

India looks forward to working with all other countries in this direction.
