New Delhi: Government of India is leading the appropriate response and treatment management of Covid-19 in the country in close coordination and cooperation with the State / UT Governments. A number of strategic and deliberate measures have been taken to prevent, prevent and treat Covid-19. It has been found that patients who have recovered even after severe Covid-19 disease may show a variety of signs and symptoms including fatigue, body aches, cough, sore throat, difficulty in breathing. Those suffering from a more severe form of Covid-19 disease and those already having the disease are likely to have a longer recovery period.
All patients recovering after Covid-19 require a holistic approach to further investigation and care of their health. Taking care of this, the Union Health Ministry has released a post-Covid-19 treatment management protocol. It provides an integrated holistic approach to the treatment management of patients who have recovered from covid disease and need care at home.
Protocol is not intended to be used as preventive / curative therapy.
Continue the appropriate behavior (applying facial masks, hand and respiratory hygiene, keeping distance from each other) specified for the Covid-19.
Drink plenty of warm water (if no adverse symptoms are seen).
Take AYUSH medicines, which increase the disease resistant capacity as advised by the qualified doctor of AYUSH.
If health is fine then do household chores regularly, professional work should be resumed in a graded manner.
Light / Moderate exercise.
Practice yoga asana, pranayama and meditation daily.
Do respiratory exercises as advised by the doctor.
Take a walk every morning or evening walking at a comfortable pace.
Eat a balanced nutritious, freshly cooked soft diet that is easily digested.
Get enough sleep and relax.
Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption.
Take regular medicines as per doctor’s advice for Covid-19 and co-morbidities, inform doctor about all medicines being consumed (Allopathic / Ayush).
Self-health monitoring at home – temperature, blood pressure, blood sugar (especially, if suffering from diabetes), pulse oximetry, etc. (if medically advised).
If there is a persistent dry cough / sore throat, gargle with warm salt water and breathe in steam. Herbs / spices may be included in breathing with garbage or steam. Cough medicines should be taken on the advice of a medical doctor or a qualified doctor of AYUSH.
Keep an eye on early warning signs such as high fever, shortness of breath, unbearable chest pain, new onset of confusion, weakness of the eyes.
Seek psycho-social support from colleagues, community health workers, counselors. Seek mental health support if necessary. Participate in group sessions of yoga, meditation etc. taking all precautions like keeping distance from each other.
First further follow-up (physical / telephonic) should be done within 7 days of discharge from the hospital where treatment is done.
After the first follow-up treatment / further investigation can be done at the nearest qualified allopathic / AYUSH physician / other medical center of the medical system. Medications of many medical methods should be avoided together, as this can cause serious adverse event (SAE) or adverse effects (AE) on the body.
Patients who have been treated at home on segregation can go to the nearest health facility if they continue to experience any symptoms.
Serious cases requiring critical care support will require follow-up with more caution.
