Purchase at MSP during Kharif Marketing Season 2020-21

New Delhi: During the current Kharif marketing season 2020-21, the government is doing the procurement of Kharif 2020-21 crops from farmers at the minimum support price under the current Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme. Procurement of paddy for Kharif 2020-21 was done smoothly in states and union territories like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Maharashtra. Is going. Till 20 November 2020, 295.23 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been procured, while 250.55 lakh metric tonnes were procured in the same period last year. This time the purchase is 17.83 percent more than last year. Out of the total procurement of 295.23 lakh MT, Punjab alone has contributed 201.36 lakh MT, which is 68.20 percent of the total purchase.

In the Kharif marketing season, Rs 55740.88 crore has been procured under the MSP scheme, benefiting about 25.83 lakh farmers.

Further, 45.10 lakh metric under Price Support Scheme (PSS) from states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh during the Kharif Marketing Season 2020 based on the proposals received from the states Purchase of tonne pulses and oilseeds approved. Apart from this, procurement of 1.23 lakh metric tonnes of copra was also approved from states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. They will also be approved after receiving proposals for purchase of pulses, oilseeds and copra under PSS from other states / union territories. So that these crops of FAQ category can be procured at notified minimum support price directly from registered farmers for 2020-21. This is also necessary so that if the market price goes below the minimum support price by the Central Nodal Agencies through the designated procurement agencies by the States during the notified harvest period in the respective States and Union Territories, the purchase can be made directly from the farmers. .

The government has procured 67040.30 MT of moong, urad, groundnut pods and soybeans from Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana and Rajasthan at a minimum support price of Rs 362.39 crore through its nodal agencies till 20 November 2020, compared to the same period last year. During the period 57285.78 MT was procured and thus the procurement of pulses and oilseeds was 17.02 percent higher and 38,880 farmers benefited from this purchase.

Similarly, it has procured 5089 MT of copre (perennial crop) from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu at a support price of Rs 52.40 crore till 20 November 2020, with 3961 farmers benefiting from this purchase. 293.34 MT of copra were procured in the same period last year. In the case of copra and urad, prices in most major producing states are higher than the MSP. Governments of the respective States / Union Territories are making necessary arrangements to initiate procurement on fixed dates regarding arrival of kharif, pulses and oilseeds in the mandis.

In Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Odisha, the procurement of cotton at minimum support prices is going on smoothly. As of 20 November 2020, 2022869 cotton bales have been purchased at a cost of Rs 6190.96 crore, benefiting 402576 farmers.
