Railways has built around 64000 beds for use by the states

New Delhi: Strengthening the nation’s capabilities in a united fight against Covid, the Ministry of Railways has deployed around 4,000 isolation coaches with around 64,000 beds in its multi-pronged initiatives. In order to meet its MoU with an order to work jointly with the states and to act as harmoniously as possible, the Railways have formulated a decentralized action plan to empower the zones and divisions. These isolation coaches can be easily moved and positioned at places of demand on the Indian rail network.

As per the demand of the states, at present 191 coaches with a capacity of 2990 beds have been assigned to various states for the care of Covid patients. Currently, isolation coaches are being used in Delhi, Maharashtra (Ajni ICD, Nandurbar), Madhya Pradesh (Tehi near Indore). The railways have extended to major cities of Uttar Pradesh such as; There are also 50 coaches in Faizabad, Bhadohi, Varanasi, Bareilly and Najibabad.

Following is the updated status of utility of these coaches deployed in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra –

Presently, 58 patients are using this facility in Nandurbar, Maharashtra. So far, a total of 85 recruits have been registered by the state health authorities with the discharge of patients. There are still 330 beds available.

Railways have met the state government’s demand for 75 Covid Care coaches with a capacity of 1200 beds in Delhi. Of these, 50 coaches are posted at Shakurbasti and 25 coaches at Anand Vihar station. So far 5 recruits have been registered in them. 1196 beds are still available.

In connection with the demand of 2 coaches by the State Government of Madhya Pradesh, Ratlam Division of Western Railway has deployed 22 coaches with a capacity of 320 beds at Tihi station near Indore. At the same time, 20 coaches have been deployed in Bhopal. According to the latest data, 13 patients were admitted with a discharge. There are currently 280 beds available.

According to the latest records, a total of 103 patients were admitted in the above states. Of these, 39 have been discharged. Currently 64 Covid patients are using these isolation coaches.

Although no coaches have been demanded by the Uttar Pradesh State Government so far, 10 coaches have been placed in each location in Faizabad, Bhadohi, Varanasi, Bareilly and Najibabad with a total capacity of 800 beds (50 coaches).
