India performed brilliantly on Day 6 i.e. August 1 (Thursday) at the Paris Olympics 2024. The country won its third medal this year, once in shooting. On the other hand, hockey, boxing and shooting also saw disappointments, with several medal contenders failing to qualify for the next round. Several badminton stars are also in contention, and their wins could end the day on a satisfactory note for India.
India won its fourth medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 when Swapnil Kusale won bronze in the men’s 50m rifle 3 position event. He started slow but made a brilliant comeback in the final round to win the bronze medal. Now he has won India’s third bronze medal in shooting after Manu Bhaker in the women’s 10m air pistol and the pair of Manu Bhaker-Sarabjot Singh in the mixed team 10m pistol event.
It was a disappointment for India’s top medal contender boxer Nikhat Zareen as she lost to China’s Wu Yu in the quarter-finals. On the other hand, Sift Kaur Samra and Anjum Moudgil also bowed out after losing in the women’s 50m 3 position air rifle category.
The Indian men’s hockey team also suffered their first defeat at the Paris Olympics, where they lost a close encounter against defending gold medallists Belgium.
