23-year-old Indian-origin Nabila Syed created history in the US midterm election

A 23-year-old Indian-American Democrat Nabila Syed has created history as she became the youngest member to be elected to the Illinois General Assembly. In the US midterm elections, Democrat Syed defeated his Republican rival Chris Bose after receiving 52.3 percent of the vote in the 51st district election in the Illinois State House of Representatives.

Nabila Syed, Indian American shared her happiness and wrote, “My name is Nabila Syed. I am a 23 year old Indian-American woman. We just flipped a Republican-held suburban district. And in January, I will be the youngest member of the Illinois General Assembly.”

Soon after, people reacted to Syed’s post and congratulated him on his victory. “So proud of the youth leading the way. It’s your time. Do great things,” wrote a user on the micro-blogging site.

“Many congratulations @NabeelaforIL God bless you with all the success every time it is your victory you have worked for your people. This is purely a victory of the people, once again many many congratulations, God bless everyone,” said another user.

23-year-old Syed also shared a post on Instagram and wrote, “When I announced for state representative, I made it a mission to really engage in dialogue with the people – a way to get them involved in our democracy.” To give reason and hope for the better. Leadership that represents their values.”

“We won this race because the people of 51st district want a representative who is ready to fight for them and their families. I have knocked on every door of this district. Tomorrow, I start knocking again to thank them for trusting me. I am ready to go to work,” she adds.
