New Delhi: Over 5.36 crore income tax returns have been filed so far for the financial year March 2021, with around 27 lakh returns filed on Thursday alone, as the deadline for compliance nears, the I-T department said.
The extended deadline for individuals to file Income Tax (I-T) returns expires on December 31.
The department tweeted, “Over 5.34 Crore Income Tax Returns for Age 2021-22 filed till 8 PM tonight. This includes 24.39 Lakh #ITRs, out of which 2.79 Lakh #ITRs have been filed in last one hour.”

A senior tax official said that till 9 pm, the total ITR count has increased to 5.36 crore, with 2,58,176 more filings in the last one hour.
5.95 crore ITRs were filed for the financial year 2019-20 till the extended deadline of January 10, 2021.
