Air India’s Delhi-London flight returned midway after ‘unruly’ passenger clashed with crew

New Delhi: Air India’s Delhi-London (AI-111) flight overturned due to an ‘unruly’ passenger. According to an airline official, the passenger had a mid-air altercation with the flight crew members.

Air India said it diverted the Delhi-London flight (AI-111) shortly after take-off from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) after an unruly passenger fought with the crew, forcing two flights to land. The airline’s statement came after reports that a London-bound flight had to turn back soon after take-off due to an unruly passenger, who has now been handed over to Delhi airport security personnel.

“Air India flight AI 111 scheduled to operate Delhi-London Heathrow on April 10, 2023 returned to Delhi shortly after departure due to severe unruly behavior of a passenger on board. Ignoring verbal and written warnings, the passenger continued the unruly behaviour, which included causing bodily harm to two members of the cabin crew,” said an airline spokesperson.

It further said: “The pilot in command decided to return to Delhi and upon landing the passenger was handed over to the security personnel. An FIR has also been registered with the police.

An Air India spokesperson said it is providing all possible assistance to the affected crew members and has rescheduled the flight to London this afternoon.
