Bihar Assembly Election: 153 crorepatis in fray in first phase

Patna: In Bihar, the assembly election activities are going on in full swing. But an unbelievable thing has come out that although Bihar is a poor state, records show that 153 out of 1,065 candidates are crorepatis in the first phase of this assembly election! Assembly elections in Bihar are scheduled in three phases – 28 October, 3 November and 10 November.

According to the Times of India report, according to the affidavit submitted to the returning officials, 58 percent of the candidates of the Grand Alliance (RJD-Congress and Left) and 60 percent of the NDA (BJP-JDU-HAM-S and VIP) are crorepatis. JD (U) leader and MLC Manmora Devi is the richest with assets of around Rs 53 crore. Manmora, contesting from Atri assembly constituency in Gaya district, has immovable property worth Rs 26.18 crore and immovable property worth Rs 27 crore. Congress candidate Rajesh Kumar from Kutumba constituency in Aurangabad is the second richest with assets of 33.6 crores.

Kaushal Yadav of JD (U) from Nawada is the third richest candidate with movable and immovable assets worth Rs 26.13 crore, while his rival Vibha Devi, who is the RJD leader and wife of profession candidate Rajaballabh Prasad Yadav, has a net worth of Rs 22.47 crore. Property.

Among the top ten crorepati candidates, maximum 4 RJD, 3 JD (U) and one each belong to Congress, RLSP and LJP.

The property value of RJD candidate Anant Singh, popularly known as ‘Chhota Sarkar’, has increased from Rs 69.5 lakh in Bihar elections in 2015 to Rs 9.9 crore in 2020. Singh is contesting from Mokama. He has represented the assembly 4 times on the JD (U) ticket and once as an independent candidate. The value of the joint assets of Singh and his wife Neelam Devi also increased from Rs 28 crore to Rs 68.55 crore in 2015.

Fateh Bahadur Singh, another RJD candidate, owns property worth Rs 12 crore from Dehri, while Mevalal Chaudhary of the same party, who is contesting from Tarapur, has assets worth Rs 11 crore.

Kaushal Kumar Singh, RLSP candidate from Banka, is the eighth richest candidate with assets of Rs 10.7 crore. Meena Devi of LJP from Banka also has assets worth Rs 10.5 crore. Kiran Devi of RJD, who is contesting from Sandesh, has assets worth Rs 10.2 crore.

According to the ADR report compiled on the basis of electoral affidavits filed by 240 sitting MLAs of the outgoing assembly, there are 160 millionaires. According to the report, JDU has 51 crorepati MLAs out of the 69 assembly members, while RJD has 51 out of 80 MLAs. BJP’s 33 out of 54 MLAs are also millionaires, while 17 out of 25 MLAs of Congress are millionaires. Both LJP MLAs are also millionaires, and the lone MLA of AIMIM is also a millionaire.
