BJP slams Punjab CM Channi for briefing Priyanka Gandhi on PM Modi’s security breach

Imphal: The BJP on Sunday slammed Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi over Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s briefing on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security and asked why he was kept on guard about the PM’s security.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, “The Chief Minister of Punjab himself had said that he had briefed Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on the issue of Prime Minister’s security.

The question arises that why does a current Chief Minister gives information to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on a sensitive issue like PM’s security. This is not about Priyanka Gandhi. What constitutional post does Priyanka hold and who will she be held in regards to PM’s security? People want to know why a sitting chief minister informs a party leader on such a sensitive issue.”

He further said that the Gandhi family should give an explanation on this whole matter.” As far as PM’s security is concerned, why was there a compulsion to keep Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the loop? This is a serious issue. We firmly believe that the Gandhi family should come clean on this.

Earlier, speaking to ANI on Saturday, CM Channi had said that he had briefed Priyanka Gandhi about everything that happened in Ferozepur during the Prime Minister’s visit to the state. Goyal tweeted, ‘Congress leaders once again expose their sycophancy towards the Gandhi family.

Punjab CM briefing a non-constitutional authority raised the question of who wrote the whole conspiracy to compromise the security of PM @narendramodi ji and risk his life.

Earlier, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia on Sunday targeted CM Channi and said that he is only under the Gandhi family and not the Constitution of the country.

Speaking to ANI, Bhatia said, “Today, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr Channi has said that he has shared all sensitive, highly confidential details of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security and his visit with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Very important. It is a serious matter as the Chief Minister has taken the oath of secrecy under the Constitution. All the information related to the security of the Prime Minister is related to highly confidential information.”

Questioning Priyanka Gandhi’s position, the BJP spokesperson said that she does not hold any constitutional post which requires the chief minister to report to her. “Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has no constitutional post that the Chief Minister is required to report to her and share sensitive details related to the Prime Minister’s security.

This clearly shows that the priority for a Congress leader is to be subordinate to the Gandhi family and not to the Constitution of the country.

Bhatia said, “They will take care of the interests of the Gandhi family, but will not care about the interest of the country. They will work under the direction of the Gandhi family but will not think about their responsibility under the Constitution.”

Notably, the Prime Minister’s convoy was stuck on the flyover for 15-20 minutes due to road blockade by some protesters, about 30 km from the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala.

The Prime Minister was to visit Ferozepur and lay the foundation stone of several development projects worth over Rs 42,750 crore. After a security lapse, it was decided that he would return to the Bathinda airport. The Union Home Ministry has sought a report from the Punjab government on the security breach during the Prime Minister’s visit to Punjab on Wednesday.
