‘Cannot foresee Army’s requirements’: Supreme Court approves Char Dham Road widening

The Supreme Court has approved the widening of roads as part of the Centre’s Char Dham road expansion project, saying the court, “cannot second-guess the infrastructural requirements of the armed forces”.

The Supreme Court has constituted a committee headed by former SC judge AK Sikri to ensure all remedial measures in the interest of the environment and the recommendations of the committee are implemented while going ahead with the project.

The Defense Ministry has said that with the construction of this road, it will be easier for the Indian Army to reach the border with tanks and weapons and will increase connectivity in mountainous areas.
