New Delhi: The 53rd meeting of the Central Clearance and Monitoring Committee was held last evening. In this, the construction of 56,368 houses has been approved under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U). These houses have been proposed to be constructed under various verticals of the PMAY-U mission. A total of 11 states/union territories participated in this meeting.
Shri Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, said, “Let us be involved in the system of implementation and execution”. He asked the States / UTs to provide 100% PMAY-U houses during the mission period. Urged to construct and ensure their distribution to all eligible beneficiaries. He also directed the States / Union Territories participating in the meeting to use the Online Working System (MIS) for proper implementation and monitoring of this mission.
Mishra also reviewed the progress of Light House Projects (LHP) and Demonstration Housing Projects (DHP). Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of LHP on 1 January 2021. Under LHP, houses are being constructed in Lucknow, Ranchi, Rajkot, Agartala, Chennai, and Indore. In order to promote these LHP sites as vibrant laboratories for the transfer of technology in the region, the Ministry has encouraged large scale citizen participation, creating technical awareness, on-site learning, solutions, explore ideas of experimentation, and To encourage innovation, an online enrollment campaign has been launched for technologists.
Mishra also explained how this mission is also promoting the empowerment of women by allocating these houses in the name of women beneficiaries or joint ownership. He also explicitly asked the states and union territories to follow the advice issued by the ministry at every level. She also specifically asked to ensure that the name of the female beneficiary is mentioned on the nameplate of her PMAY-U house.
With the vision of ‘Housing for All’, the emphasis has been laid on completing construction of houses across the country and speeding up their distribution. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is committed to providing pucca houses to all eligible beneficiaries of urban India by 2022 when the nation is celebrating its 75th year of independence.
Construction of PMAY-U houses is in various stages. So far, more than 73 lakh houses have been laid, construction work of about 43 lakh houses has been completed.
