Court asks officials to probe encroachment in Delhi’s Jamia graveyard

A petition filed by an NGO has sought direction to the authorities concerned to demolish the alleged unauthorized and illegal construction on the graveyard land in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday asked the civic body and other officials to probe allegations of encroachment on the land of the graveyard in Jamia Nagar and demolish the structure if it is found illegal.

The Division Bench of Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh on Monday disposed of the matter after hearing the arguments of the petitioner and the respondent Nigam and asked the authorities to investigate the allegations and take action as per law.

The petition, filed by an NGO, Janhit Vikas Sanstha, has sought direction to the authorities concerned to demolish the alleged unauthorized and illegal construction on the graveyard land in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar.

Advocate Alamgir, appearing for the petitioner, alleged that the private builder by basically using his powers and links and affiliation with the land mafia took possession of the said graveyard land which is the subject of the present writ petition and illegal construction.
