Dadasaheb Phalke Award: Rajinikanth to be honored, PM Modi congratulates

New Delhi: Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday announced that the 51st Dada Saheb Phalke Award will be given to South Film Industry’s superstar Rajinikanth.

Javadekar tweeted, “Happy to announce # Dada Saheb Phalke Award for 2020, one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema.”

Speaking about the ‘Robot’s actor’s contribution as an actor, producer and screenwriter, Javadekar said, “His contribution as an actor, producer and screenwriter has been distinguished.

Legendary singers Asha Bhosle and Shankar Mahadevan, actors Mohanlal and Biswajit, and filmmaker Subhash Ghai are members of the jury that selected Rajinikanth for the award.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2019 should have been announced last year, but the COVID-19 was postponed due to the epidemic, as there were National Film Awards for 2019.
