Delhi High Court dismisses plea to suspend work of Central Vista project, Rs. 1 lakh fine on the petitioners

The Delhi High Court on Monday dismissed the petition seeking suspension of the ongoing construction work of the Central Vista Avenue redevelopment project.

A bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh dismissed the petition saying that the petition was “motivated” and “not a genuine PIL”.

The petition was filed by Anya Malhotra, translator, and Sohail Hashmi.

The bench imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the petitioners.

The court allowed the construction of Central Vista to continue, saying it was an “important and necessary” national project

The High Court refused to ban the construction, saying that since the laborers are staying on the site.

The Delhi High Court stated, “The DDMA order concerned does not prohibit construction work anywhere.”

The court also said that the work under the contract awarded to Shapoorji Pallonji Group was to be completed by November 2021 and therefore it should be allowed to continue.
