Every year one lakh Indians are taking foreign citizenship, a shocking figure presented in Lok Sabha

Between 2017 and 2021, the US continues to be the first choice with 42 percent of the Indian population. On the other hand, Canada is at number two where 91,000 Indian people have obtained citizenship in the last 5 years.

New Delhi: Most people who migrated from India to foreign countries in search of good education and better jobs have now started taking citizenship there as well. According to government statistics, about 1 lakh people take foreign citizenship from other countries to India every year. The statistics presented by the Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai in response to a question in the Lok Sabha a few months ago related to the acquisition of foreign citizenship of Indian people were really shocking.

Continuous growth of people taking foreign citizenship

In the year 2015, where 1,41,000 people took foreign citizenship, in 2016 this number went beyond 144,000. This number continued to increase till the year 2019. Although in 2020 due to Corona, this figure decreased slightly to around 85 thousand, but from 2021 this figure again went near 100000. That is, more than 350 Indians are getting foreign citizenship every day.

America, Canada and Australia Favorite Countries

Between 2017 and 2021, the US continues to be the first choice with 42 per cent of the Indian population. On the other hand, Canada is at number two where 91,000 Indian people have obtained citizenship in the last 5 years. Australia is in third place with 86,000 people, England with 66,000 and Italy with 23,000 are in fourth and fifth place respectively.

Career guarantee and better studies are the main reasons

According to experts, in search of better education, a guarantee of a good career and economic prosperity, Indians are moving abroad and taking citizenship there and settling there. It has come to the fore in many research papers that the loss of a large number of jobs in India, lack of good education system and lack of business environment for small and big businessmen are the biggest and main reasons for migration.
