Exodus continues in Congress, Rae Bareli MLA Aditi Singh joins BJP

Rebel Congress MLA from Rae Bareli Sadar Aditi Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday. UP BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh called a press conference in Lucknow and Singh joined the party at the venue.

The move is seen as a setback for the Congress party, which is struggling to regain its lost political base in the state ahead of the 2022 UP elections.

The Rae Bareli seat is where Aditi Singh’s family has dominated for nearly three decades. His father, the late Akhilesh Singh, was a Congress MLA here from 1993 to 2007, winning as an independent in 2007 before Congress expelled him, and in 2012 from the Peace Party. Aditi took over by winning this seat in 2017. on Congress ticket

Rebel Congress leaders have been attacking the Congress leadership in recent times on a range of issues, including the exodus of several senior leaders. After Congress leader Jitin Prasada had entered the BJP, Aditi had said, “One by one all the young and dynamic leaders are leaving the party.

The leadership should introspect on this issue. I am sure Jitin Prasada has taken a very careful decision. He has been a Union Minister at a young age and is a dynamic leader. Congress’s loss is BJP’s gain.

Aditi Singh had earlier supported the BJP-led central government’s move to abrogate the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution that abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

The UP Congress had written to the president seeking disqualification of Rae Bareli MLA Singh for defying the party whip and attending a special assembly session organized by the Adityanath government last year to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. .

Singh was absent from the party’s training session in Rae Bareli last October and was served a show cause notice by the then CLP leader Ajay Kumar Lallu.

However, Speaker Hriday Narayan Dixit rejected the party’s petition against Aditi Singh.
