Gadkari unveils India’s first double decker AC electric bus

Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday unveiled India’s first double decker AC electric bus in Mumbai.

Gadkari took to his official Twitter handle and tweeted, “Beginning of Sustainable Revolution! It gives me immense pleasure to launch Ashok Leyland’s Electric Double Decker Bus in Mumbai today.”

Describing the dynamic boost to ‘Self-reliant India’, the Minister further said, “Dynamic boost to the sustainable transport sector, such initiatives are cost-effective solutions and by reducing oil imports and promoting indigenous resource, PM Narendra Modi ji’s vision of a (AatmanirbharBharat) self-reliant India. India’s first and unique electric double decker air-conditioned bus – Switch EIV 22 has been manufactured by Switch Mobility Limited (‘Switch’). It is designed, developed and manufactured in India. Switch Mobility, a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland.

The Switch EIV 22 is equipped with the latest technology, ultra-modern design, top-notch safety and best-in-class comfort features. The refurbished iconic double-decker bus is designed to revolutionize public transport in the country and will set new benchmarks in the intra-city bus market.

The new electric double-decker bus will be the world’s first semi-low-floor, air-conditioned, electric double-decker, with wide doors on the rear overhang and a rear ladder.
