Indian Navy provided technical support to a merchant vessel that wandered in sea

New Delhi: INS Talwar, stationed in the Gulf of Yemen, received a broadcast call from a stray merchant cargo ship MV Nayan on 11 March 2021 requesting technical assistance.

The ship was wandering at sea since 9 March 2021 due to the failure of its propulsion, power generation machinery and navigational equipment on transit from Yemen to Iraq. Based on the initial aerial assessment of MV Nayan’s troubles, the Indian Navy ship assisted its VBSS (Visit Board, Search and Caesar) team along with a technical team by the ferry to assist the vessel whose crew consisted of 7 Indians.

Naval teams worked onboard continuously for seven hours to operate the MV Nayan equipment ie both generators, steering pumps, sea water pumps, compressors and major engines so that the vessel could resume its voyage.

The Navy team also assisted in operating navigation equipment such as GPS and navigation lights before the start of her journey to the next port of MV Nayan.
