Kanpur’s perfume industrialist Piyush Jain arrested from Kannauj after seizure of Rs 200 crore

New Delhi: A day after the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) seized Rs 200 crore from his premises, Kanpur-based perfume industrialist Piyush Jain was arrested from Kannauj on Sunday.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, the apex body of the investigating agency DGGI, had termed it as the biggest cash seizure in history.

The development comes after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claimed on Sunday that the businessman whose premises were raided by central agencies recently, has links with Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party, an allegation by the opposition party. denied.

Addressing a public meeting here, the Chief Minister said that today about Rs 100 crore more was recovered from the trader.

He said, ‘For the last two-three days, continuous raids are being conducted at the house of a person of the SP. Rs 257 crore in cash and several kilograms of gold and silver were recovered,” the CM said, adding that the money belongs to the poor.

He said that there is also evidence as to how it was looted.

Some pictures of the raids went viral on various social media platforms, showing piles of cash in a large cupboard at Jain’s residential premises in Kanpur.

Jain also runs perfume making units in Kannauj district adjacent to Kanpur.

Tax officials also raided a factory manufacturing ‘Shikhar’ brand of pan masala and other flavored tobacco products in the city.

The official said the money was allegedly linked to the sending of goods through fake challans and without e-way bill by the goods transporter.

The raid also led to a war of words between the BJP and the Samajwadi Party on Twitter.

BJP’s UP unit said, ‘SP people, the smell of your sins will not be washed away by the smell of corruption. Black money worth more than Rs 150 crore has been seized. And it is natural for Akhilesh to feel pain when action starts against corrupt people.

It has been said in the tweet that the whole of UP knows that SP means corruption.

Responding to this, the SP said that the saffron party and the media were defaming the SP by forcibly linking Jain and Shikhar Pan Masala to the SP and claimed that the industrialist had nothing to do with SP MLC Pumpi Jain.
