Police officials in Kerala’s Palakkad district called a woman from Sunday morning after she admitted that she killed her child as a ‘Pal sacrifice’ to please Allah.
When the police team reached his house, 31-year-old Shahida was waiting for him at the gate. Her husband and two children slept in the next room, unaware of the chilling crime that took place in the house.
According to the FIR lodged at Palakkad South Station, Shahida, a mother of three from Puthupallithuv, killed her third child and telephoned 112 emergency control room in Palakkad between 3 and 4 pm and confessed to the crime. He told the police that he killed his 6-year-old son, Amil, as a sacrifice to ‘Allah’.
Neighbors told the media that Shahida had taken the contact number of Janamithri police station a night earlier.
Police found the body of a blood-soaked child in the bathroom. His throat was cut and his legs were tied. Shahida had a hand injury.
The teacher, Shahida, is three months pregnant at a nearby madrasa. Her husband Suleman, formerly employed in Gulf, now works as a taxi driver in the city of Palakkad.
Shahida has been booked under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. “The FIR states what the mother told the police. Whether ‘sacrifice for Allah’ is really the reason or not will be determined only after a thorough investigation, ”said R. Vishwanath, Superintendent of Police (Palakkad).
Police said more streams would be added during the investigation.
