Reports now claim that Parveen was involved in planning and executing Umesh Pal’s murder. As per reports, he managed the syndicate of Atiq Ahmed during his imprisonment.
Shaista is the daughter of retired police constable Mohammad Haroon and her family lived in Damupur village of Prayagraj. As a child, she lived with her father in the Government Police Quarters. The eldest of her siblings, Shaista has four sisters and two brothers. One of his brothers is the principal of a madrassa.
She married Ateeq in 1996, after which her world changed. He has studied till 12th standard and has no connection with any illegal activities.
In 2021, Shaista joined AIMIM, and in January 2023, she joined BSP. On joining the BSP, Shaista said, ‘My husband (Atiq) could not learn discipline because of his friendship with the (former) SP supremo. My husband always liked the BSP and helped top BSP leaders in the past as well.” Mayawati, however, decided not to field Shaista in the mayoral election.
Shaista is known as the godmother of Atiq’s gang and played an active role in the gang.
Ateeq’s relative Mohammad Zishan said that Ateeq once sent his son Ali with 25 shooters to Zeeshan and asked him to transfer his land to Shaista and demanded Rs 5 crore.
UP Police is now on the hunt to find Shaista Parveen and as per reports, she might be observing Iddat after her husband’s death where no one can meet her. The police are also trying to nab Guddu Muslim, another co-accused in the Umesh Pal murder case.

Shaista, 51, lost her son Asad and husband Ateeq within two days. While Asad was killed in a police encounter in Jhansi, Atiq and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in Prayaraj.
Shaista is absconding ever since the video of Atiq and Ashraf’s murder surfaced online. Earlier, there were some rumors about Shaista surrendering at Atiq’s funeral, but none of them were true.
A letter purportedly written by Parveen to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on February 27 surfaced after Atiq’s death. In the letter, Parveen has claimed that Atiq and Ashraf are being wrongly implicated in the Umesh Pal murder case. He further claimed that minister Nand Gopal Gupta orchestrated Pal’s complete murder.
Four cases have been registered against Parveen since 2009 in Prayagraj. Of these, three cases are of cheating and one of murder.
The first three cases were reported from 2009 in Colonelganj. Each case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 420, 467, 468, 471 and section 30 of the Arms Act, and related to the murder of Umesh Pal.
