Telugu star Nani and Mrunal Thakur’s romantic drama, Hi Nanna has received largely positive reviews and is bringing audiences to the theatres. The film, directed by Shouryuv, has performed well on its opening day and according to industry tracker Saknilak, the film earned Rs 6.10 crore on its release day, Thursday.
Hi Nanna was earlier scheduled for worldwide theatrical release on December 21, however, the makers shifted its release date to December 7 to avoid clash with Prabhas’ epic action thriller film Salaar directed by KGF fame Prashant Neel. Moved forward decision seems to have proved to be a wise move as there are no other big Telugu films releasing this week and the film will enjoy a free run at the box office, which will continue next week as well.
The film has received positive reviews from film critics and is getting a lot of love from the audience, seeing this the film’s earnings will increase in the weekend. Hi Nanna saw 43.75 percent Telugu occupancy on Thursday, with the evening and night shows of the film being the highest watched. Hyderabad recorded 50 per cent occupancy and Bengaluru 50 per cent, even as parts of Tamil Nadu were hit by Cyclone Michong, with the state recording 47.75 per cent occupancy.
Hi Nanna is Nani’s second film this year after the massive hit Dussehra, while it is Mrunal Thakur’s second Telugu film after the success of Sita Raman with Dulquer Salmaan. Recently, in an interview with 123telugu.com, the actor said, “After Sita Ramam, the audience wanted to see me in diverse roles. I focused on roles that are close to my heart. Hi Nanna Ki Ek It’s a beautiful story. I’m sure the audience will fall in love with the characters of Viraj and Yashna.”
In his review Nani and Mrunal Thakur’s film “a high-emotional drama that will remind you of the actor’s Jersey.” He wrote, “After a massive, arduous Dussehra, Nani picks up ‘Hi Nanna’, a family-centric love story with a debutant director. After leaving an indelible mark on Telugu audiences as Sita in last year’s Seetharamam , Mrunal Thakur returns with Hi Nanna. With music by Hesham Abdul Wahab, who has already impressed with Kushi earlier this year, the film is a drama that aims to bring the family audience to the theatres.”
