NCP’s Sharad Pawar dissolves all national level departments, party cells

NCP national general secretary Praful Patel tweeted, “With the approval of National President, Nationalist Congress Party, Sharad Pawar, all departments and cells are dissolved with immediate effect.”

After weeks of political crisis in Maharashtra, Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar dissolved all departments and cells of his political party with immediate effect. Confirming the NCP’s decision, Patel took to a micro-blogging site and said the development comes with the approval of the NCP chief.

NCP national general secretary Praful Patel tweeted, “With the approval of National President, Nationalist Congress Party, Sharad Pawar, all departments and cells are dissolved with immediate effect.”

Patel, a former Union minister, did not disclose the reason for the sudden move, which comes three weeks after the collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi or MVA government in Maharashtra.

Exceptions include the Nationalist Mahila Congress, the Nationalist Youth Congress, and the Nationalist Student Congress.

“This decision does not apply to Maharashtra or any other state unit,” Patel said.

The move comes with an aim to reorganize the structure of the NCP, which includes Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP, after the recent collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra.

The NCP was a key component of the Shiv Sena-led coalition government, which fell in late June following a rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray by a section of Shiv Sena legislators led by Eknath Shinde.

The new Maharashtra government came to power after Shiv Sena MLA Eknath Shinde toppled the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government after a 10-day rebellion. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday said that he has the support of 18 Shiv Sena MPs, not just 12.

Shinde, who arrived in Delhi to discuss the issue of OBCs in the state, also expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would pronounce its verdict in favor of his government on July 20.

Ahead of the virtual meeting with Shiv Sena MPs, Shinde told news agency ANI, “Shiv Sena MPs will meet us. We have 18 MPs, not just 12.” He further said, “We have unwavering faith and trust in our judiciary. Majority (in the assembly) matters in a democracy. We have followed all the rules.”

The Supreme Court on Wednesday posted for August 1 hearing petitions by both the Shiv Sena factions related to the Shiv Sena party’s control and the recent political crisis in Maharashtra that brought down the Maha Vikas Aghadi (Congress-Shiv Sena). -NCP) Govt in the state.

The Supreme Court agreed to hear the petition of the Uddhav Thackeray camp challenging the disqualification of the MLAs by the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker. The top court will also hear a petition by the Eknath Shinde camp challenging the disqualification notice sent to them by the Maharashtra deputy speaker.
