Birbhum arson: Newly married couple killed in Birbhum arson

There has been silence in West Bengal’s Bagtui and Nanur villages after a newlywed couple fell victim to the Birbhum arson.

Lily Khatoon and Kazi Sajidur got married in January. They were going to Lily Khatoon’s maternal house in Bagtui village.

Around midnight, Sajidur calls up his friend Majeem and tells him that someone has locked him and his wife in a house and set it on fire. Sajidur asked Majim to call the police.

Mahim informs Sajidur’s father about the phone call. When Sajidur’s father tried to call him, the efforts failed.

The charred bodies of the couple were found the next morning.

At least eight people, including two children, were torched in Rampurhat village of Bengal’s Birbhum district on Tuesday, killing at least eight people.

The state government constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by ADG (CID) Gyanwant Singh to probe the matter. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sought a report on the arson incident within 72 hours.
