Kolkata Police conducted a search at Rakesh Singh’s residence for at least three hours on Tuesday. While officials alleged that Singh was not at home, his two sons prevented him from performing his duties.
The Kolkata Police on Tuesday sent Rakesh Singh, a member of the BJP’s West Bengal State Committee and the convener of the party’s Basti (slum) cell, 23-year-old Pamela Goswami, one of whom, in a case with Pamela Goswami, from Purba Burdwan district in Galasi Arrested. The state secretaries of the BJP Yuva Morcha were arrested on charges of possessing 76 grams of heroin.
Singh was summoned under Section 160 CrPC after his name during the investigation in the drug case. He had informed the police in writing that they would not be available in Delhi after prior appointment. His petition against summons was turned down by the Calcutta High Court.
Police sources said he has been taken to the local police station but his arrest has not been confirmed yet. His two sons, Shivam Singh, 24, and 22-year-old Suvam Singh have also been picked up by Kolkata Police for allegedly preventing them from discharging their duties by police officers. He has been sent to the Central Lockup of Lal Bazaar.
On February 19, a day after his arrest, Pamela Goswami alleged that Rakesh Singh had conspired to implicate him and also named a senior BJP leader. “I have been framed by BJP leader Rakesh Singh, who is close to a senior BJP leader. I want the CID to investigate this. I have all the evidence, ”she said when she was being taken to the NDPS court in Alipur.
On Tuesday afternoon, officers of the Narcotics and Anti-Terrorist Section of the Detective Department of Kolkata Police searched Singh’s residence for about three hours. Police sources said Singh was not at his residence then, and his sons allegedly prevented him from performing his duties. Assistant police commissioner Sujit Chakraborty of the anti-nuisance section said, “The police could enter the house after two hours.”
“Fourteen people entered my house. They did not get anything. They asked me to come for questioning… We asked the police to send notice first, ”Subham said, adding that he was picked up by the police shortly before.
Before joining BJP in March 2019, Singh was in Congress and contested assembly elections from Kolkata Port seat in 2016, but lost to Trinamool Congress. He has more than two dozen criminal cases against him and was an accused in a case related to the vandalism of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar during Amit Shah’s roadshow in May 2019.
The day before Pamela was arrested, she held a conversation with TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh. He messaged me on Thursday that he and some other people with good portfolios would like to meet me. I told him that I was traveling, and if he needed, he could call me. Minutes later, I get a call. She was upset, wanted to meet me, and was thinking of doing something. When asked about the allegations that it was a TMC conspiracy, he said, “I don’t know who he is and it was the first time we talked.” His arrest shows clear groupism in the BJP.
Two years ago, Pamela Goswami’s father Kaushik Goswami wrote a letter to the Kolkata Police Commissioner and Jadavpur Police Station alleging that Parbir Dey, a friend of Pamela’s, had allegedly exposed her to drugs. The police had monitored the duo and arrested them on 19 February based on a tip-off.
Pamela was a model and acted in a few television serials. On July 21, 2019, he and two other actors Rimjhim Mitra and Surojit Chaudhary joined the BJP in the presence of BJP state president Dilip Ghosh.
