PM Modi to inaugurate Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut on Sunday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh to lay the foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University at around 1 pm on Sunday (January 2). This will be the prime minister’s first visit to Uttar Pradesh that goes to polls this month (and the new year); He visited the state four times in December, 2021.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Dhyan Chand University will be set up in Salwa and Kali villages of Sardhana town of Meerut at an estimated cost of around 700 crores.

It further said that developing the culture of sports and establishing world class sports infrastructure is one of the major focus areas for PM Modi. The PMO said that the establishment of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut would be a big step towards fulfilling this vision.

Sports University will be equipped with modern and state-of-the-art sports infrastructure including synthetic hockey ground, football ground and basketball, volleyball, handball, kabaddi ground, lawn tennis court, gymnasium hall, synthetic running stadium, swimming pool. multipurpose hall, and a bicycle velodrome.

It will also have facilities for shooting, squash, gymnastics, weightlifting, archery, canoeing and kayaking, with a capacity to train 1,080 players, including 540 female and 540 male players.

PM Modi has made several visits to India’s most populous state, where assembly elections are due in the next few months. He inaugurated several central government sponsored schemes including Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi.

The election schedule is expected to be announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) this month.

The Election Commission recently visited Uttar Pradesh for three days, during which it held several meetings with political parties and officials to understand the preparations for conducting elections in the state and to prepare a roadmap.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra said in a press conference that all parties want the UP elections to be held on time.
