New Delhi: December 25 is the 96th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister, Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This day is also celebrated as Good Governance Day. On this occasion, as per previous practice, a floral tribute is being organized on his portrait, which was unveiled on 12 February 2019 in the Central Hall of Parliament. On the occasion, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will pay floral tribute and will release a book in Parliament titled Atal Bihari Vajpayee: A Commemorative Vol. This book, published by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, highlights Atal ji’s life and his works and contains notable speeches made by him in Parliament. The book also has some rare photographs of Atal ji’s public life.
Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, elected ten times to the Lok Sabha and twice to the Rajya Sabha, was an outstanding leader as an MP, led by the trust, affection and faith of the people. As an MP and especially as Prime Minister, Atal ji made innumerable important contributions which paved the way for a stronger economy through bold reforms and rapid development of infrastructure that gave India the Golden Quadrilateral, a mega project connecting the country through world class express highways.
Atal ji also distinguished himself as a fine politician and world leader. He was honored with the country’s highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, in 2015, for exceptional service to the nation and the highest order performance. Earlier, he was also the recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, the nation’s second-highest civilian award in 1992. As an MP, he received Pt. Awarded with. Govind Ballabh Pant Award for Best Parliamentarian in 1994, which defines Atal ji as “a role model excellence for all legislators”.
