Patna: All the markets remained closed on Thursday in protest against the death of the youth in lathicharge and firing during the idol immersion at Durga Puja in Munger. SP Lippi Singh and DM have been removed with immediate effect in view of public anger. Earlier, protests in the city turned violent in protest of the firing. Initially peaceful, the protest later turned violent. Youths involved in the protest shouted slogans and vandalized the SP office.
People of the area are demanding strict action against the SP. Angry youths involved in the protest reached near the SP office and shouted slogans against the SP and threw stones there. The outraged youths also vandalized the secretive branch office of the SDO. The atmosphere has become tense during the incident. A mob of outraged youths set two police jeeps on fire at the East Sarai Farani in the city.
Explain that a youth was killed and more than six people were injured in a clash between police and security forces during the immersion of Durga’s statue in Bihar’s Munger district on Monday midnight. The police used force on the youths during the immersion of Badi Durga in Shadipur. The mob became furious and clashed with police and people. While defending, the police opened fire in which a young man died on the spot. Many people were injured by being shot. Those who are being treated at Sadar Hospital.
SP Lippi Singh had clarified that during the immersion, anti-social elements pelted stones at the police. Around 20 security forces personnel were injured in the incident, a SHO level officer was beheaded. However, he later named only 15 police personnel. The SP claimed that after the stone pelting, the youth was killed in the shootout by anti-social elements.
There is outrage against the SP in the city as the incident took place between the Bihar assembly elections and the day before voting in Munger. At the same time, political parties have also put Chief Minister Nitish and the police administration in the dock over the firing. RJD leader and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav and LJP President compared the incident to Jallianwala Bagh and termed it as General Dyer. He has demanded strict action against SP Lipi Singh. Meanwhile, a judicial inquiry was ordered into the incident.
