Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif-starrer Sooryavanshi has been released in theaters on Friday. The Rohit Shetty directorial, which was initially scheduled to release in March 2020, got delayed by over 19 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The film introduces the third character of Shetty’s cop universe. Earlier, Ajay Devgn’s Singham and Ranveer Singh’s Simmba have been established as the mainstays in this universe. Ajay and Ranveer have done cameo in Sooryavanshi.
As per the trailer of the film, the film follows Akshay Kumar’s constable Sooryavanshi as he tries to stop a terrorist group from invading Mumbai. There is a character in the trailer who says that during the 1993 bomb blasts, 1 ton of RDX was brought to Mumbai, but only 400 kg was used and the remaining 600 kg is still buried in the city. The film follows the trail of that hidden RDX.
The supporting cast of the film also includes Javed Jaffrey, Gulshan Grover, Abhimanyu Singh, Jackie Shroff, Sikandar Kher, Niketan Dheer, Rajendra Gupta, Kumud Mishra.
The makers have released a few songs from the album of the film and so far they have received a good response from the audience. Songs like ‘Aila Re Ella’, ‘Mere Yaara’ and ‘Naja’ have already been out.
At the trailer launch of Sooryavanshi, Akshay said, “I have made 135 films, and this is the first time I am seeing such a huge crowd. Rohit has made a wonderful film. I hope the audience will like it. Ajay (Devgan) and I have spent our careers. We started together and we have reached here, where we have done many films together. He said, “It feels good when I get a chance to wear a police uniform. We are all fortunate to have got opportunities where we play such good roles.”
On the occasion of the trailer launch, Producer Karan Johar said, “There is a lot of excitement in the room. I don’t think in my years of producing and producing films, I have seen so much energy for trailer releases and that is justified, as this is a universe that Hindi cinema has not seen. This is the first time that Indian cinema has such a universe where you have an alliance of three mega movie stars.
Review
Story: Sooryavanshi follows DCP Veer Sooryavanshi, the chief of India’s Anti-Terrorist Squad, as he attempts to save Mumbai from one of the worst terror attacks in history.
Review: Rohit Shetty has deftly expanded his cop world over the years – keeping audiences engaged and hardcore fans of the genre on edge. After the Singham series (headline by Ajay Devgn) and then Simmba (starring Ranveer Singh), now amidst much fanfare, drama and blazing theatrics, Sooryavanshi (Akshay Kumar) has taken a storm. Sooryavanshi’s character was subtly announced at the end of Simmba. The film has all the elements, attitude, style, showmanship and massive star power expected of a Rohit Shetty offering.
Like Simmba, even this saga of police action is narrated by Ajay Devgn, which reminds us of the many terror attacks that took place in Mumbai from the 1993 serial blasts to the many historical places in Mumbai in 2008. Since the terrorist attack on Mumbai, which includes the Taj Mahal Palace. Mumbai and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). The story of the film unfolds when the city is yet to be attacked in its biggest ever attack, as some of the sleeper cells of Lashkar have been activated and it is found that 600 kg of RDX left over from the ’93 serial attacks was used for this purpose. is being done for.
Enter DCP Veer Suryavanshi with a solid mission and lots of hot blood to save the city from another massive attack. He is so committed to his duty that his family, wife Rhea (Katrina Kaif) and son Aryan also come second to his mighty act.
With a cross-border plot, the film revolves around the concept of revenge, ‘An eye for an eye makes the world blind.’ While the story itself plays it safe (basic and predictable), the action is risky and thrilling (Rohit Shetty and Sunil Rodrigues). The chase scene between Veer and John (Sikander Kher) on the streets of Bangkok is a delight. Never mind if it seems inspired by Carrie-Anne Moss’ bike scene with the keymaker in The Matrix Reloaded.. Like Ajay Devgn’s Bandra-Worli Sea Link action sequence in Singham Returns was inspired by Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible III.
However, Sooryavanshi is loaded with clichés and the length could do with a good editing, especially in the first half. After the interval, it is subjected to loaded action and explosion.
Akshay Kumar gave a knockout performance. From his SETI-worthy admission to relentless gunfights – he justifies his super cop act. Apart from the high adrenaline physical encounters, several high drama chases with cars, bikes and helicopters follow, as Akshay Kumar showcases his undeniable action prowess. Overall, it is an Akshay show that has huge star power and screen presence. Katrina Kaif looks stunning on screen and her sensual moves in the iconic song ‘Tip Tip Barsa Pani’ are undoubtedly clapping, but you can’t think of Bollywood’s original ‘Mast Mast’ girl, Raveena Tandon.
Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh’s smashing (quite literally) entry in the second half elevates the film and adds striking punch. As Bajirao Singham and Sangram Bhalerao respectively, the three actors steal the show in some of their accompanying scenes.
The ensemble cast, which includes Jackie Shroff terrorist gang leader Umar Afiz as well as other group members Gulshan Grover, Abhimanyu Singh, Kumud Mishra and Nikitin Dheer, contribute significantly to the progress of the plot. Javed Jaffrey’s portrayal of ATS chief Kabir Shroff, on the other hand, perfectly plays his grim cop.
While Sooryavanshi’s background score sets the mood, the songs are not particularly memorable. The new version of ‘Naaja’ is earworm, but we don’t get to hear it in the film. However, the dancing trio on Daler Mehndi’s ‘Aila Re Ella’ is entertaining.
Veer Sooryavanshi, Akshay Kumar has successfully taken over from their predecessors (Singham and Simmba), and with a generous dose of flying cars, this is sure to be a bumper Diwali entertainer for you. And if you’re a fan of high voltage action movies, give it a go!
