The roof of the Chintels Paradiso Apartment in Gurgaon collapses; Two feared dead, rescue work underway

The roof of an apartment building in Gurgaon (Gurugram) Sector 109 collapsed on Thursday evening, causing panic in the area. Many people are feared trapped and sources say that at least two are feared dead. Rescue operations are underway after several teams of NDRF, SDRF, police and other district officials reached the Chintel Paradiso housing complex.

According to police, the incident happened at around 6 pm at a flat in an 18-storey building of Chintels Paradiso when a flat owner at the seventh floor was renovating his house.

The drawing room area of the sixth floor reportedly collapsed on the first floor. According to reports, two flats between the sixth and first floors in the D tower of the apartment were vacant, but at least four families are believed to be trapped under the debris.

Incidentally, this great tragedy was not without warning. In July last year, a resident of Chintel Paradiso had filed a complaint against the builder but the police allegedly refused to register an FIR. The resident, identified as Sonam Arora, took to Twitter to share his ordeal about the condition of the building.

The latest incident sheds light on an earlier incident, where part of the roof collapsed, but no one was injured at that time.
