Air India Pilot Dies of Heart Attack During Rest Period Following Flight from Delhi to Bali

Air India confirmed on Wednesday that one of its pilots died of a heart attack in Bali. The pilot was in his scheduled rest period at the time of the incident.

The First Officer, aged approximately 40, had arrived in Bali from Delhi just the day before and was staying at a hotel during the crew’s designated rest period.

According to an Air India spokesperson, the officer complained of discomfort at the hotel, following which he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Upon examination, doctors determined that he had suffered a heart attack; however, despite all medical efforts, he could not be saved.

Citing the spokesperson, news agency PTI reported, “He was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with a heart attack. Despite the medical team’s best efforts, he could not be saved.”

The airline stated that it is “deeply saddened” by the loss of its cockpit crew member and has extended its condolences.

An airline official noted that the pilot had undergone all necessary medical examinations in recent months and had no known pre-existing health conditions. He was operating strictly within the flight duty time limitations prescribed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
