New Delhi: Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Communications and Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad today held a virtual meeting with Amit Agarwal, Global Senior Vice President and Country Head of India.
Many issues related to the digital sector were discussed during this meeting. After this meeting, Amazon India has announced to start manufacturing electronics products from India. Initially, Amazon is going to start manufacturing Amazon Fire TV Stick from India.
Speaking on the occasion, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology and Law and Justice, Government of India said, “India is an attractive investment destination and is poised to become a major player in the global supply chain in the electronics and IT products industry. Production Linked Incentive Our government’s decision to introduce (PLI) scheme has received tremendous response globally. We welcome Amazon’s decision to set up a manufacturing line in Chennai as it will increase domestic production capacities, as well as create jobs. Our commitment to build a strong, self-reliant India will go ahead. Hon’ble Minister has also mentioned that this is only the beginning to manufacture Amazon products from India for India and export markets.
Amazon will start its manufacturing efforts in Chennai with Foxconn’s subsidiary ContractManufacturer Cloud Network Technology and start production later this year. The device manufacturing program will be capable of producing hundreds of thousands of Fire TV Stick devices every year which will meet the demands of customers in India. Amazon will continuously evaluate the scalability for additional markets / cities based on domestic demand.
India has taken several important steps to encourage electronics manufacturing in India. Production-linked manufacturing (PLI) for large-scale electronics manufacturing has emerged as a major success with many international companies starting production of electronic goods from India. The arrival of Amazon in this region furthers the success story of electronics manufacturing in India.
Minister of Information Technology wrote on Ku- Electronics manufacturing in India under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has recently attracted some of the biggest investments from global giants. I am happy to share this information that Amazon India is involved in this success story of India Is the newest to happen.
Prasad asked Amazon India to help bring Indian artisans and Ayurvedic products to global markets through the ecommerce platform. He said that Amazon is a global company but Amazon India should truly grow as an Indian company connected to the Indian business community and culture.
