From tulips, roses and daffodils to Asiatic and Oriental lilies, the landscape wonder of Amrit Udyan (erstwhile Mughal Gardens) has started welcoming visitors from February 2. The Central Lawn with rare and exotic flowers with Rashtrapati Bhavan in the background, the Long Garden with hanging gardens, the Circular Garden with terraced landscape of tulips are some of the highlights this year.
Attractions include a flower top, an exclusive rose garden, a forest garden with wooden structures and a selfie point with the signed logo of Amrit Udyan.
The Cacti Garden, which houses many species, is a paradise for fans of lush plants and one of the designated selfie spots.
Navika Gupta, Deputy Press Secretary to the President, shares, “We have already seen 50,000 prebookings for Udyan Utsav 2024, where the emphasis is on rare seasonal flowers. Main attractions include a floral clock, a 225-year-old Sheesham tree and a selfie point for visitors.
Avneesh Banswal, chief horticulturist, explains, “Amrit Udyan has a lot of sharp edges, but in the theme garden we have introduced some softness by planting 18 species of tulips. Additionally, more than 100 varieties of roses are also on display.
Shuttle buses will run from Central Secretariat to Gate 35 of Rashtrapati Bhavan from 9.30 am to 5 pm daily.
The garden will remain closed on Monday for maintenance.
Visitors can carry mobile phones, purses/handbags, water bottles and milk bottles for children.
Medical and toilet facilities are available on the premises.
There is also a food court offering Indian cuisine.
Special days have been marked for persons with disabilities (22 February), defense personnel (23 February), women and tribal women SHGs (1 March), and children from orphanages (5 March).
