India defeated England by 66 runs in the first ODI of the three-match series at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Tuesday. In response to the target of 318 runs, the visiting team was dismissed for 251 runs in 42.1 overs.
England had a bright start to their chase, but the departure of openers Jason Roy (46) and Johnny Bairstow (94) lost them a lot of momentum. Apart from this, the famous debutant Krishna returned to take four wickets after some costly deliveries and Shardul Thakur recorded three dismantles.
Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two wickets and Krunal Pandya also dismissed one. Earlier, the hosts scored 317 runs for five wickets in 50 overs, with Shikhar Dhawan missing a century by two runs. Captain Virat Kohli also batted for 56 runs. KL Rahul (62) and Krunal (58) remained unbeaten till the end, with their side setting a strong target.
Krunal also completed his half-century in 26 balls, which was the first innings of the ODI matches. Ben Stokes was the bowler for England taking three wickets, while Mark Wood took two wickets. The hosts have taken a 1-0 lead in the current series, and will be in form in the second ODI.
