Know here why the demand for ‘Global Sun Temple’ is gaining momentum in Odisha

Over a decade of research, the Trust has designed a ‘Global Sun Temple’ in the architectural, spiritual and social essence of the fallen Konark Sun Temple.

The ‘Global Sun Temple’, similar to the 13th century Konark Sun Temple, has once again been erected by the Kalinga Heritage Preservation Trust (KHPT), an organization of heritage conservationists and archaeologists.

At a meeting of the trust and the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Odisha chapter, on Monday, members of both the organizations said that despite being the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in the state, the Sun Temple in Konark is facing damage. Is kept. Apart from time and nature, inadequate measures were taken for its conservation.

Expressing apprehension that the temple may be on the verge of falling into ruins, Trust founder Anil Dey said that the Konark temple is considered great not only for its beautiful sculptures, but also has many tangible heritages presented in the form of stone art. He said, “This heritage deserves to be preserved in a new form because it is important for contemporary society.”

Over a decade of research, the Trust has designed a ‘Global Sun Temple’ in the architectural, spiritual and social essence of the fallen Konark Sun Temple. It has been designed as a modern temple for the contemporary world, without being a carbon copy of the existing temple. Dey said it would showcase the art and architecture of Odisha’s temples and its iconography.

“This secular temple of Sun God will attract tourists and visitors from far and wide due to its innovative concept and presentation. The cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 400 crore,” said Dey, who is also the author of ‘The Sun Temple of Konark’ and ‘Arka Kshetra Konark’.

Expressing that the establishment of the temple would be a difficult task without the support of the state government, INTACH and KHPT have decided to send a memorandum on this demand to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. He said the Ram temple in Ayodhya was successfully completed as it was a matter of national pride while the ‘Global Sun Temple’ would be a structure of global pride.
