Sania Mirza Retirement: ‘2022 Will Be My Last Season’, Sania Mirza Announces Retirement From Tennis

India’s most iconic tennis player Sania Mirza has announced her retirement planning after losing in the first round of Women’s Doubles at the Australian Open 2022 on Wednesday. Mirza and her Ukrainian partner Nadia Kichenok lost 4-6, 6-7 (5) to Slovenian team Tamara Zidansek and Kaja Juvan in one hour and 37 minutes. After the loss, Mirza announced that 2022 was going to be her last season on the Tour and she really wanted to complete it.

However, Sania will be paired opposite Rajiv Ram of America in mixed doubles. A Times of India journalist quoted Mirza in the press conference as saying, “I have decided that this will be my last season. I am preparing week after week, but I am not sure whether I will be able to survive the season or not. But I have to stay.” Mirza has been playing on the professional tour since 2003 and it has been 19 years since Sania of Hyderabad played tennis at the top.
