New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey told the Rajya Sabha today that 22 new AIIMS have been approved under the Prime Minister’s Health Protection Scheme (PMSSY). These include 10 AIIMS approved on or after 2017-18.
There are six AIIMS approved at Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Trishekesh. The remaining 16 new AIIMS are in various stages of construction. The state-wise location of these 16 AIIMS, the date of their cabinet approval and the approved cost is attached.
In addition to 6 functional AIIMS, OPD services have been started at 6 AIIMS at Rae Bareli, Mangalagiri, Gorakhpur, Bhuntida, Nagpur and Bibinagar.
MBBS courses have been started at 12 AIIMS at Mangalagiri, Nagpur, Kalyani, Gorakhpur, Bhuntida, Rae Bareli, Deogarh, Bibinagar, Guwahati, Bilaspur, Jammu and Rajkot.
Construction work is in progress at AIIMS Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh. Initially, there was a slight delay in construction due to non-availability of sand. There was also some delay in activities undertaken by the state, including water supply management, excessive rainwater removal, the main connectivity route for the campus and relocation of the existing NDRF campus. The Kovid-19 epidemic also affected the progress of work.
The progress of all the current projects under PMSSY has been reviewed regularly with the executing agencies and other stakeholders to ensure completion of work in a time-bound manner.
