New Delhi: As of January 12, 2021, additional cases of avian flu (H5N8) have been confirmed among the dead crows in HCL-Khetri Nagar in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. The avian flu (H5N1) has been confirmed in dead crows and pelican in Kanpur zoo in Uttar Pradesh and dead crows in Jaganoli and Fatehpur villages in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh.
Apart from this, avian flu (H5N1) has been confirmed from NIHSAD (National High-Security Animal Disease Institute- Bhopal) in a poultry sample taken from the Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh today.
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying has issued advisories on testing protocols to states to encourage investigations at the state level while ensuring appropriate biosecurity facilities. After confirming the spread of avian flu in Maharashtra through samples of dead birds, a team of the Center has been appointed to visit Maharashtra and Gujarat. This team will monitor the major centers of AI in these states.
Through social media platforms such as Twitter, various media platforms are being shared among the public to spread awareness about avian flu and how to deal with the situation. States have been advised to maintain sufficient stock of PPE kits and accessories necessary for bird-killing operations.
