Congress leader Jairam Ramesh apologizes to Vivek Doval in defamation case

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Saturday apologized to Vivek Doval, son of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, before a Delhi court in a criminal defamation case. Vivek Doval had filed a defamation suit against Jairam Ramesh and Caravan Magazine for defamation statements and articles. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sachin Gupta heard the case today.

Ramesh, while apologizing, clarified that his remarks were based on a news article and said that some independent verification of the facts could be in order. In his statement presented before the court, Ramesh said, “Thus, I would like to offer my apology to you and your family.

Vivek Doval has accepted Ramesh’s apology through his lawyer DP Singh. In a press conference on 17 January 2019, the Congress leader made some statements against Vivek Doval, his family and his business venture GNA Asia Fund.

Ramesh said, “The general elections were close and the questions raised in the article seemed appropriate to be publicly exposed. In retrospect, I have missed making some insistence against you and your family,” Ramesh said . “I understand that these statements have deeply hurt you. I want to clarify that these statements or allegations were concluded from an article published the previous day in Caravan magazine,” he said.
