Earthquake tremors felt in Delhi-NCR, intensity on Richter scale 4.2

This year earthquake tremors have been felt many times in Delhi-NCR. After April, earthquake tremors were felt more than 15 times in Delhi-NCR. During this time, the epicentre of the earthquake was in the areas around Delhi.

Earthquake tremors have been felt in Delhi and some areas of NCR. The earthquake had a magnitude of 4.2 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was 48 km south-west of Gurugram. Earthquake tremors were felt around 11.45 pm on Thursday. At present, information about the loss of life and property has not been revealed.

Earlier on December 2, the tremors of mild earthquakes were felt in Delhi-NCR. The earthquake was 2.7 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was in Ghaziabad. There was an earthquake at 4.45 am in morning. This year earthquake tremors have been felt many times in Delhi-NCR. After April, earthquake tremors were felt more than 15 times in Delhi-NCR. Senior scientists of the country have already feared that a major earthquake could occur in Delhi and its surrounding areas at any time. The National Centre of Seismology, the country’s apex body monitoring earthquake, said that in the last few months, tremors have been felt in Delhi many times.

Professor CP Rajendran at the Jawaharlal Nehru Center of Advanced Scientific Research has expressed fears that a major earthquake may occur in Delhi-NCR at any time. But when it will come and how powerful it will be, it is difficult to say. Rajendran said these things in an interview given to an English website.

CP Rajendran did a study in 2018. According to which, between 1315 and 1440, a 600-km long seismic gap was formed from Bhatpur in India to Mohana Khola in Nepal. That is, a big gap has been created inside the ground. It is an active seismic fault. CP Rajendran said that there is usually no movement in this gap. Small shocks keep coming on it. This gap has been quiet for the last 600–700 years. But there is constant seismic pressure on it. This pressure may have come in the form of earthquake. If there is an earthquake from here, it can be up to 8.5 magnitude.

If there is an 8.5 magnitude earthquake in the Delhi-NCR region, there will be a sense of catastrophe. There are more than 100 long and deep faults below Delhi-NCR. Some of it is on Delhi-Haridwar Ridge, Delhi-Sargodha Ridge and Great Boundary Fault. Along with this, many active faults are also associated with them.
