New Delhi: Farmers’ organizations, protesting against 3 agriculture laws of the central government, decided to resume talks with the government on Saturday. The peasant unions proposed date of December 29 for the next round of talks, so that the deadlock over the new laws could be overcome.
The farmers decided to resume talks with the government a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered to negotiate agricultural laws. The organizations also made it clear that the issue of guarantee for the minimum support price should be included in the agenda along with the modalities to repeal the laws.
On December 26, 2020, farmers opposing the new agricultural laws in and around the national capital said that the next round of talks with the government would be held at 11 am on December 29, 2020.
The farmers have decided to resume talks with the government a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered to negotiate agricultural laws. He said that the government is ready to discuss the issues, arguments and facts of the farmers who are protesting against the new agricultural laws.
According to sources, the aim of the farmers’ unions would be to discuss the modalities to be adopted to repeal the new agricultural laws. The system of making MSP a legally guaranteed right will also be discussed in a meeting between farmers and representatives of the government. The farmers will also demand amendments to the Commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region and adjoining areas ordinance to exclude farmers from the penal provisions of the ordinance.
Farmers are also expected to demand changes in the draft Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2020 to protect their interests.
Meanwhile, farmers plan to clap and platter Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program. Some farmer organizations had already publicly stated that they would oppose the program.
