FCRA: Registration of many institutions including IIT Delhi, Jamia Millia Islamia canceled

New Delhi: IIT Delhi, Jamia Millia Islamia, Indian Medical Association and Nehru Memorial Museum and Library are among nearly 6,000 institutions whose FCRA registration closed on Saturday. Officials said these entities either did not apply for renewal of their FCRA licenses or their applications were rejected by the Union Home Ministry.

According to the official website related to Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, organizations and institutions whose registration under FCRA has expired or has expired include Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts, Indian Institute of Public Administration, Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial Foundation , Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi College of Engineering and Oxfam India.

Officials of the Union Home Ministry, which regulates the activities of NGOs and affiliates registered under the FCRA, said that the registration under the Act is deemed to have ended on Saturday (January 1). FCRA registration is mandatory for any association and NGO to receive foreign funding. As of Friday, there were 22,762 FCRA-registered NGOs. On Saturday, it came down to 16,829 as 5,933 NGOs had stopped functioning.

Organizations whose FCRA registration got closed include Medical Council of India, Emmanuel Hospital Association, which runs more than a dozen hospitals across India, Tuberculosis Association of India, Vishwa Dharmayatan, Maharishi Ayurveda Pratishthan, National Federation of Fishermen Cooperatives Ltd.

Hamdard Education Society, Delhi School of Social Work Society, Bharatiya Sanskriti Parishad, DAV College Trust and Management Society, India Islamic Cultural Centre, Godrej Memorial Trust, Delhi Public School Society, Nuclear Science Center at JNU, India Habitat Center, Lady Shri in Institutions It also includes Ram College for Women, Delhi College of Engineering and All India Marwari Yuva Manch.
