According to this ancient medicinal science, Harad, with its mild form but great effect, has earned the reputation of being the ‘King of Medicines’ as it balances all the three doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha in the body. Ayurveda calls it ‘Rasayana Prabhav’, a herb or medicine that cures disease, increases the body’s immunity and protects the system from the signs of premature aging.

Haritaki or Terminalia chebula is a flowering evergreen tree native to Asia. The fruits of this tree are widely used in traditional medicine systems like Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homeopathy. The medicine is made from the pericarp of the mature fruits of the haritaki tree. Triphala (three fruits) is a very famous, effective and commonly used medicine consisting of dried myrobalan fruits.

The Haritaki tree is considered divine. According to Indian mythology, Haritaki originated from the drops of nectar that fell on the earth. Since this tree is sacred to Lord Shiva (Har means Lord Shiva), it is called Haritaki.

Haritaki is used not only in India, but also in Africa, Tibet and many other Asian countries. It has broad-spectrum medicinal properties and is used in the treatment of a variety of diseases such as diseases of the digestive system, heart diseases, gout (gout, rheumatism), paralysis, epilepsy and many others. Harar is a rasayana medicine of Ayurveda. Rasayanas are those, which provide youth and longevity. According to Ayurveda, daily consumption of haritaki regulates all the normal functions of the body and maintains good health.

Haritaki is used in the treatment of many diseases. The dosage for the drug or the fluid vehicle depends on the disease being treated. If the disease is caused by a disorder of vata or vata dosha, it is used with ghee, with sugar for pitta dosha and with rock salt for kapha dosha.

It is a rasayana fruit that promotes good health. It improves appetite and digestion. It is a liver stimulant and laxative. Consuming harad fruit with food helps in proper digestion and thus improves health. Consuming haritaki with honey and ghee ends anemia.

Haritaki fruits are also used externally. Applying dry fruit paste on ulcers, ulcers, wounds and skin diseases provides relief in the condition. It also prevents the accumulation of pus. The paste is also applied in inflammation, swelling and conjunctivitis. Applying haritaki oil on burn wounds helps in wound healing. Gargling with the decoction of myrobalan gives excellent results in stomatitis and throat problems. The fine powder of haritaki is used as a tooth powder.

Haritaki is a useful medicine for treating flatulence, constipation, diarrhea, dysentery, cysts, digestive disorders, vomiting, enlarged liver and spleen, cough and bronchial asthma.

Harar Murabba is a brain tonic that has memory-enhancing properties. It is good for the eyes. It is good for the digestive system and works as a gastric tonic.

Haritaki churna is mainly used for constipation, cough, bacterial and fungal infections of stomach and skin.
